WORCESTER, Mass. – Joyce O'Shaughnessy, MD, an expert in the field of breast cancer research, will discuss treatment options and current research on the disease at a lecture on March 22, at 4:30 p.m., in the Browsing Room of the Dinand Library at Holy Cross. The lecture is free and open to the public.
O'Shaughnessy's talk is the first in the Katherine A. Henry '86 Memorial Lecture Series on Women's Health Issues. Henry's parents endowed the lecture series in memory of their daughter who died in 1997.
A 1978 graduate of Holy Cross, O'Shaughnessy worked for 10 years at the National Cancer Institute, including five years as the senior investigator in the Medical Breast Cancer Section.
Currently, she is associate director of the Breast Cancer Research Program at Physician Reliance Network Research, Inc., in Dallas, Texas. In addition she is in medical practice at Texas Oncology, PA. From 1995-1997 she was in practice at Kentuckiana Medical Oncology Associates in Louisville, Ky. She also served for one year as associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Louisville.
O'Shaughnessy earned her medical degree at Yale University Medical School and completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
