Nationally-Known Race Relations Expert to Speak at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Jane Elliott will give a lecture entitled "The Anatomy of Prejudice" on Thursday, March 25, at 7 p.m., in the Ballroom of the Hogan Campus Center at Holy Cross.  Elliot is a nationally-known race relations expert and former grade school teacher.  Admission is free and open to the public.

Elliot began this program in her third-grade classroom in reaction to the level of racism reporters displayed the day following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  In splitting her students into two groups by the color of their eyes - something they had no control over - and telling them that brown eyes were inordinately better, she was able to show them the way that racism exists in society.

Elliott and her work have been the subject of three documentaries: "Eye of the Storm," "Eye of the Beholder," and the 1996 release of "Blue Eyed."
