Dealing with Germany's Past to be Discussed at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Karola Brede, professor of sociology at the Sigmund Freud Institute at the University of Frankfurt, will give a lecture on Wednesday, March 24 at 8 p.m. in room 406 of the Hogan Campus Center at Holy Cross.  The lecture, sponsored by the German Studies Program, is free and open to the public.

The recent debate about a planned central Holocaust memorial in Germany has focused attention on the way in which contemporary Germans deal with the crimes committed by the Nazis.

In a lecture entitled "The Past in Germany's Present: The NS-Period in Contemporary German Debates," Brede will trace the various phases of dealing with the Nazi past in postwar German history and place the current debates about the Holocaust into their historical context.
