Annual El Salvador Commemorative Lecture to be held at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Rev. Kevin Burke, S.J., an assistant professor of systematic theology at the Weston Jesuit School of Theology, Cambridge, Mass., will give the annual El Salvador Commemorative Lecture on Monday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. in Room 519 of the Hogan Campus Center at Holy Cross.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

Fr. Burke, a member of the faculty at Weston Jesuit School of Theology since 1997, co-founded the Mexico Project and Romero House at Regis College, Weston, before spending several years in Central America and the Philippines.  His topic is "Encounters with the Real World: The Way of Ignacio Elacuría."

He recently published his first book, The Ground Beneath the Cross, an analysis of the theology of Rev. Ignacio Ellacuría, S.J., one of eight people martyred at the University of Central America in El Salvador in 1989.

Started in 1995, this lecture serves to remember the six Jesuits and two women who were martyred in 1989.  It is sponsored by the Jesuit Community, the religious studies department, the Peace and Conflict Studies Program, the Chaplains' Office and Alpha Sigma Nu.
