Holy Cross and City Announce Development of Master Plan to Rehabilitate Cookson Field

WORCESTER, Mass. – Officials at Holy Cross will be joined by City Manager Thomas R. Hoover; Commissioner of Parks, Recreation, and Cemetery, Michael V. O'Brien; and members of the Worcester City Council at a news conference to announce the collaboration between Holy Cross, the City, and the neighborhood to develop a much-needed Master Plan to rehabilitate Cookson Field. The briefing will take place on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 4:45 p.m. in the Hogan Campus Center (4th floor, Suite B).

This plan for the park, located on Kendig Street (off College Street), will be an invaluable document to guide the future improvements and future uses of this "gem in the rough."  Named in honor of former Mayor Walter Cookson, it consists of approximately 18 acres of undeveloped, wooded space bordered by residential use.  The City of Worcester has owned the land since 1936.

Jacqueline Dansler Peterson, vice president for student affairs at Holy Cross, will offer details about the College's investment in this noteworthy project and will provide an update on other College/neighborhood projects taking place this fall.
