Motivational Speaker Drew Brown to Speak at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Motivational speaker Drew Brown will deliver a lecture on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Hogan Campus Center. Sponsored by the Black Student Union, Campus Activities Board, Naval Science (NROTC) department and the President's Office, this lecture is free and open to the public.

Drew Brown is nationally acclaimed as an author and motivational speaker. He lectures on the theme, "Education Plus Hard Work Minus Drugs Equals Success and the American Dream." Founder of "The American Dream," a program designed to combat the problems faced by today's youth, Brown is the best-selling author of "You Gotta Believe." He has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, Fortune Magazine and many other publications.

Brown grew up in Harlem, N.Y., and later attended Southern University (La.). In 1981, he entered the United States Navy and was commissioned via Aviation Officer Candidate School. Upon earning his "Wings of Gold," he joined the oldest attack squadron in naval aviation history, "The Black Panthers." Currently a naval commander, Brown is an active member of the Naval Reserves and joined Federal Express Corporation as a pilot in June 1988.

Brown has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by the President of the United States and the United States Chamber of Commerce Special Salute for his outstanding leadership and deep concern for the country's youth. Brown is a recent recipient of the Congressional Black Caucus Male Achievement Award and The Freedom Foundation Medal given by the United States Supreme Court.
