Members of the College Community Celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation

On Sunday, April 29, 15 Holy Cross students received the Catholic sacraments of initiation in the St. Joseph Chapel. Bishop Reilly of Worcester celebrated the sacraments with the students, who for the past year have been participating in the College's RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) Program through the Chaplains' Office.

The students who were baptized and received Holy Eucharist are: Bonnie Chan '02, Sarah Gibbs '01 and Renee Percy '01.

They then joined the following students for the sacrament of confirmation: Dara Ely '04, Lindsey Jean '04, Wilfredo Lopez '03, Leah Maloney '01, John Montealegre '04, Christopher Moore '02, Kevin O'Neill '04, Tau Fa 'Asau Sammy Siaki '02, Julie Marie Silva '03, Ross Sullivan '02 and Catherine Whamond '02.

David Rancourt '04 received Holy Eucharist; he will be confirmed next year.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a one- or two-year process through which believers become full members of the Roman Catholic Church. During this faith journey, they are introduced to the beliefs, community life, liturgical worship and apostolic work of the Catholic Church. Full membership culminates in the celebration of initiation sacraments: baptism, confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

The RCIA is designed for those seeking baptism within the Roman Catholic Church. The process is also adapted for baptized Christians from other denominations who may be seeking membership in the Catholic Church. Baptized Catholics who are seeking confirmation are also welcome.
