Vast Array:

Works from the Studio Concentration Seminar

he Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery at the College of the Holy Cross presents "Vast Array," works by Holy Cross senior studio art majors, from April 25 to May 25.

Each Holy Cross studio art major is required to take the Studio Concentration Seminar their senior year. This two-semester course was taught by Professor Robert ParkeHarrison in the fall and Professor Michael Beatty in the spring. The seminar is concerned with developing a focused body of artwork that reflects the students' individual viewpoint and distinct aesthetic voice.

The students have been developing their artwork since January, and their experiences have culminated with their works now exhibited in the Cantor Art Gallery. On May 1, the students hosted an "Artists' Talk" in the gallery, where they paired up with their fellow classmates in a dialogue of their distinct works.

Alongside each student's artwork hangs a one-page philosophical statement about the work. In addition to this artist's statement, each student must submit a portfolio at the end of the semester containing 10 to 20 slides, a professional resume and their sketchbook.

The student artists are as follows:

Katrina Allen, Matthew Collins, Kristin A. Hiensch, Janelle-Maria Hraiki, Jessica Kieliszak, Troy LaRose, Kate Lyons, Nathaniel J. Malloy, Anjali-Devi D. Mandalaywala, Kristin Murphy, Alexia Vernicos and Piya Wannachaiwong.

The hours for the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is located in O'Kane Hall at the College of the Holy Cross, 1 College Street, Worcester, Mass., 01610. Admission to the gallery is free.
