Sanctae Crucis Award Recipients 2001

On Friday, May 4, the 2001 Sanctae Crucis Awards were presented at a ceremony held in the Ballroom of the Hogan Campus Center. Established in 1998 to recognize the distinguished achievements of Holy Cross alumni, the Sanctae Crucis Awards are intended to be the highest non-degree recognition bestowed by the College on an alumnus or alumna.

This year's recipients are outstanding alumni who embody the distinctive mission of Holy Cross:

* Harvey G. Clermont '61 * David B. Perini '59 * Loren Ferré Rangel '92 & Maria Eugenia Ferré Rangel '89 * William J. Williams Jr. '58

In 1998, a committee was appointed by former President Reedy and Provost Frank Vellaccio to make recommendations establishing the Sanctae Crucis Awards. The committee researched awards programs at other colleges and made suggestions about how best to honor Holy Cross alumni/ae.

Currently, nominations for the award are solicited from alumni. Nominees must be Holy Cross graduates who have not received an honorary degree from the College. Current Holy Cross trustees are not eligible while in service on the board. The Holy Cross Mission Statement is the foundation for the awards.

The nominations and selections committee then review the nominees' credentials and make recommendations to the provost. The committee is comprised of the provost, vice president for business affairs, College chaplain, director of public affairs, president of the General Alumni Association and a member of the executive committee of the Board of Trustees.
