International Word & Image Conference to be Held at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – There will be an international conference held at Holy Cross from Tuesday, June 26, to Saturday, June 30, titled “Representation of Time in Literature and the Arts.” Held every other year since 1986, this year marks the first time the conference will be held in the United States. This event marks one of the largest gatherings of international scholars in the humanities around a single theme.

Fifty-one academics from around the world will be attending the conference to present papers and participate in conversation on the links between verbal and non-verbal representations of time. Attendees include art historians, literary scholars, sculptors and filmmakers from such countries as France, Italy, Canada, Germany and England.

Members of the Holy Cross faculty have been part of this multi-disciplinary conference since its inception 15 years ago. In its first year hosting the event, the College will simultaneously display a complimentary art exhibit, titled “Imaging Time,” with artwork arranged thematically around the topic of time.
