Holy Cross Health Services Achieves National Accreditation

WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross Health Services has been awarded the certificate of accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC), according to Janice Allen, director of Health Services. The award means that Holy Cross Health Services has met nationally recognized standards for quality care set by the accrediting organization. They are the first college Health Services in Massachusetts to achieve accreditation by AAAHC.

"We are pleased and proud to have achieved accreditation," said Allen. "The accreditation process is very valuable and has helped us to maintain and continually improve the quality of care that we provide."

In order to achieve accreditation, Holy Cross Health Services underwent an extensive on-site survey of its facilities and services. The survey team, composed of physicians, nurses and administrators, evaluated all aspects of patient care. The AAAHC conducts its accreditation program on a national basis and has accredited more than 1240 ambulatory health care organizations. AAAHC is a private, non-governmental, non-profit organization.

In a letter to Holy Cross Health Services, the AAAHC president writes, "The dedication and effort necessary to achieve accreditation is substantial. Holy Cross Health Services is to be commended for this accomplishment."

Holy Cross Health Services consists of an Ambulatory Care Unit and an Inpatient Unit for short stay and observation. On-site physician coverage is provided Monday through Friday, 20 hours/week. The Health Services staff consists of six full-time registered nurses and three board-certified family practice physicians affiliated with UMass Memorial Health Care Inc.
