Atlantic Records Executive to Speak at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – As part of the annual Deitchman Family Lectureship in Religion and Modernity at Holy Cross, Atlantic Records executive Oretha Winston will give a lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rehm Library of Smith Hall. Sponsored by the Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture and African American Studies, this event is free and open to the public.

Winston's lecture, titled "Euphoria: Programming and Packaging American Youth," will address how the music industry plants trends and packages artists, particularly how it sells images of African American youth to other African Americans and to white, middle-class youth.

An active young adult Catholic, Winston specializes in promotion and marketing for Atlantic Records. In addition to offering an insider's perspective on the industry, she will also talk about what it means to be a person of faith in the music industry.

The Deitchman Family Lectureship in Religion and Modernity was permanently endowed by John V. Deitchman, Holy Cross Class of 1970, in 2001. Deitchman's gift ensures that the exploration of fundamental religious and philosophical questions will remain an integral and permanent feature of intellectual life at Holy Cross.
