Holy Cross to Raise Funds for Victims of Sept. 11 Tragedy

WORCESTER, Mass. – In the wake of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, the Holy Cross community will hold a campus-wide fund raiser on Friday, Oct. 12, to benefit the families devastated by the tragedy. Teams of students, faculty and staff members will participate in a 50-lap, run/walk relay race at 6:30 p.m. at the Hart Center track.

Each team will donate $200 to enter, and all proceeds from the relay will be contributed to Families of Freedom (www.familiesoffreedom.org), a scholarship fund created to provide educational assistance for post-secondary study to financially needy children and spouses of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks in the United States.

In addition to the relay race, Holy Cross has held clothing and blood drives, and has accepted monetary donations to the relief effort. Students have also been selling red, white and blue ribbons to raise money for the victims and as a symbol of their patriotism in this time of national tragedy. The College plans to construct a permanent, physical memorial on the campus to forever remember the alumni killed in this tragedy.
