Matthew West to Perform at Holy Cross

Singer/songwriter Matthew West will give a concert at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Crossroads, located in the basement of the Hogan Campus Center. Sponsored by Student Programs and Leadership Development, the concert is free and open to the public.

After graduating Millikin University (Ill.) with a degree in music performance in 1999, West moved to Nashville, Tenn., where he quickly signed a professional songwriting deal with Word Music Publishing.

Soon after, West began an 80-college campus tour, a practice he continues today. "It was the perfect fit that my first tour included so many colleges" he reflects. West claims that he loves playing colleges, because "Being a recent graduate I am at home in front of college students and it's like we speak the same language."

In concert, West combines original songs with favorites by artists like John Mellencamp and James Taylor. As an artist he is committed to reaching listeners with a positive and real message about life, love and faith. The most important part of his life is his relationship with Christ.

He has released two original CDs, "Sellout" and "Every Step of the Way.".
