Religion in the Deaf Community to be Discussed at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross will host a panel presentation on religion in the Deaf community on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the College.

The schedule of events is as follows:

9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Panel presentation in the Rehm Library of Smith Hall The following panelists will each present for approximately 30-45 minutes:

Childers, "Unity of All People in the Path of God: Starting with Deaf Ministry" * Susan Haggerty, CI/CT, "God Has Called Me to Interpret … Now What Do I Do?" * Brother Matthew Hysell, "Catholicism" * Patrick "Pax" McCarthy, M.S., American Sign Language (ASL) native, "Media Analysis of Audiocentric Churches ‘for' the Deaf"

12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Buffet lunch in the Hogan Campus Center

1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Mass, celebrated in ASL, in the Rehm Library of Smith Hall

The registration fee is $10; the event is co-sponsored by the Deaf Studies Program and the Chaplains' Office at Holy Cross, Mount Wachusett Community College, Holyoke Community College, and the Northeastern University Interpreter Education Project, U.S. Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration, Interpreter Training Program Grant #H160A50000-20.
