Leonard Sulski Lecture at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The ninth annual Leonard C. Sulski Memorial Lecture in Mathematics will take place on Thursday, April 18, at 8 p.m. in Room 519 of the Hogan Campus Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Professor Dennis DeTurck of the University of Pennsylvania will give this year's lecture, titled "Coiling and writhing in geometry, biology and physics."

DeTurck is the chairman of the mathematics department and Davidson Kennedy Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests center on systems of partial differential equations and differential geometry. He is currently managing editor of the Contemporary Mathematics series of the American Mathematical Society, and has served as associate editor of the American Mathematical Monthly.

The annual mathematical lecture series is a tribute to Leonard C. Sulski who taught in the mathematics department at Holy Cross from 1965 until his death from leukemia in 1991.
