David Lamb has earned degrees from Hunter College, the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, and the New York University School of Law, where he was member of the Black Law Students Association.

His first book, "Do Platanos Go Wit' Collard Greens?," has been praised for exploring relations between African Americans and Latinos; it is currently used by New York City's Alternative High School system as a way to promote better relations between the two groups. In his second novel, "The Trumpet Is Blown," Lamb explores Islam in the African-American community and addresses intergenerational relations among African Americans. Both books are part of the literary genre Lamb describes as "Hip-Hop Fiction."
