Organist William Porter to Perform at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – William Porter will perform an organ concert on Saturday, April 27, at 8 p.m. in the St. Joseph Memorial Chapel at the College of the Holy Cross. As part of the Holy Cross Chapel Artists Series, the concert is free and open to the public.

The program will feature improvisations by Porter as well as North German Baroque repertoire.

Porter is chair of the Organ Department at the New England Conservatory (NEC). In the fall of 2002, he will leave NEC and join the faculties of the Eastman School of Music and Yale University where he will teach improvisation. Porter is highly acclaimed for his ability to improvise in historic styles. He was a winner of the Erwin Bodky Competition in Early Music and has recorded extensively.
