Holy Cross Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross community will commemorate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. with a week of remembrance, titled "Martin Luther King, Jr. … More Than a Dream" from Monday, Jan. 20, through Friday, Jan. 24. All events are free and open to the public. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, Jan. 20 - 1p.m - 3 p.m. - A Food for Thought Forum, featuring James Bryant, of the sociology and anthropology department, and Diana Cruz, of the English department, will take place in Hogan Suites B and C; sponsored by the Black Student Union (BSU).

6:15 p.m. - Campus-wide Candlelight Vigil and March through campus, beginning at St. Joseph Memorial Chapel; sponsored by BSU.

7 p.m. - "The Meeting," a play depicting a fictional meeting between Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X will be performed in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom.

Wednesday, Jan. 22 12 p.m.- 2 p.m. - Diversity 101 Luncheon Series: "Martin Luther King, Jr. … More Than a Dream," a panel presentation. Panelists include James Bryant of the sociology department, Carol Conway of the political science department, Diana Cruz of the English Department, Thomas Doughton of the Center for Interdisciplinary and Special Studies, Michael West of the history department and Ambrose Kom of Africana Studies. The panel presentation will take place in room 320 of the Hogan Campus Center.

Thursday, Jan. 23 7 p.m. - Lecture by Juan Williams, national political correspondent for NPR, in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom. Prior to the lecture, Williams will be available to sign copies of his books at 6 p.m. in the ballroom.
