Priest to Address Current Crisis in the Church at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Rev. Donald Cozzens, author of the best-seller, The Changing Face of the Priesthood: A Reflection on the Priest's Crisis of Soul, will speak at Holy Cross on March 13, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rehm Library. His lecture, titled "The Pain and the Privilege: Reflections on the Crisis in the Priesthood," is free and open to the public.

Rev. Donald Cozzens, a pastoral theologian and psychologist, is the author of three books and countless articles on the Catholic Church and the priesthood. He has served as an expert consultant on the crisis facing the priesthood for several national news programs including 60 Minutes and Meet the Press. He has also been interviewed on various television networks including CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS.

A priest in the Diocese of Cleveland, Fr. Cozzens earned his M.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his Ph.D. from Kent State University. He has lectured throughout the United States and in Ireland and South America. He is currently a visiting professor in the religious studies department at John Carroll University.

Sponsored by the College's Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture, this lecture is part of "Beyond Brokeness: Healing, Renewal and the Church," a year-long series of discussions regarding the renewal and reform of the Church, taking place at Holy Cross. The events scheduled as part of the series are designed to enhance understanding of the problems that have emerged as a result of the ongoing sexual abuse crisis, and to engage in meaningful reflection on them.
