Expert on Ancient Philosophy to Lecture at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – On Wednesday, March 12 at 4:30 p.m. in room 519 of the Hogan Campus Center at Holy Cross, University of Toronto Professor Brad Inwood will present "Seneca on Freedom and Autonomy." The lecture is free and open to the public.

Professor Brad Inwood holds the Canada Research Chair in Ancient Philosophy and is chair of the classics department at the University of Toronto. He has published numerous books and articles on ancient philosophy, including works on the Presocratics, Plato, Stoicism, ancient ethics, and the works of Seneca. His books include Ethics and Human Action in Early Stoicism, The Poem of Empedocles, and Assent and Argument: Studies in Cicero's Academic Books. He is also the editor of the Cambridge Companion to the Stoics. He is on the editorial boards of Ancient Philosophy, Apeiron, Classical Philology, Phoenix, and Electronic Antiquity. Recently he was the co-organizer with Dorothea Frede of the 2001 Symposium Hellenisticum in Hamburg: "The Hellenistic Philosophy of Language."
