Holy Cross Students Earn Prestigious Avon Science Scholarships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Three Holy Cross students recently received Avon Science Scholarships for their academic accomplishments at the College of the Holy Cross. Made possible by a grant from the Avon Products Foundation, Inc., to the College, this prestigious award carried with it a $6,000 scholarship towards each recipient's senior year.

The Avon Science Scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding Holy Cross women science students and is based solely on merit. Recipients are invited to Avon's New York headquarters to meet with senior executives and to spend a day with a fellow female scientist in the company's chemistry facility.

The recipients are as follows:

Caitlin A. Farrell is a senior biology major in the premedical program from Bolton, Mass. She is a member of the College Honors Program. In addition to being a co-chair of the Holy Cross EMT program, she actively volunteers in the community with various student organizations. Farrell is a graduate of Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton.

Jaclyn R. Gareau is a senior chemistry major with a concentration in biochemistry from Rehoboth, Mass. She is also a member of the premedical program. The recipient of a Pfizer Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Gareau conducted research at Holy Cross last summer. In addition to being the program director for the Big Brother Big Sister program at Holy Cross, she holds several other leadership roles on campus.

Lindsey K. Lavoie is a senior physics major from Dartmouth, Mass. A member of the physics national honor society, Sigma Pi Sigma, she recently co-authored an article published in the Journal of Applied Physics. Lavoie is the president of the Holy Cross Society of Physics Students and chair of the Student Advisory Committee for the physics department.
