Holy Cross Deaf Awareness Week Events

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sponsored by the Holy Cross American Sign Language (ASL) program, the following deaf studies events are open to the public. Events are free unless otherwise noted.

Saturday, Sept. 20, 5 p.m. – Worcester Deaf Club hosts an early fall cookout. Cost is $5 for members and $8 for non-members. The cookout will he held at the Sunderland Road Community House in Shrewsbury, Mass. For additional information contact kposborne@aol.com.

Saturday, Sept. 20 – The College of the Holy Cross will be offering the DEAFinitely Skate Hockey Program for deaf children over the age of four at the Hart Recreation Center ice rink. Skaters of all levels are invited. Instruction will be in American Sign Language (ASL). Lessons will be on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. The program begins on Sept. 20 and runs until Dec. 13. Registration will take place on Sept. 20, at 8:30 a.m. in the Hart Recreation Center ice rink.

Tuesday, Sept. 23, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. or 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. – The 10th annual "It's a Deaf, Deaf World" interactive workshop will take place in the Hogan Campus Center, 4th floor. There will be no spoken language used at the workshop so that hearing people can communicate with the deaf using a variety of signing methods. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited.

Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. in Stein Hall, room 116, and Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in Stein Hall, room 102. - ASL Movie Night. The film For a Deaf Son will be shown.
