Post-Graduate Volunteer Opportunities

The Chaplains’ Office will host a series of events this fall for students interested in post-graduate volunteer opportunities. The schedule of events follows:

Post-Graduate Volunteer Panel Oct. 28, 7:30 p.m. Senior Residence Hall Common Room Four Holy Cross alumni will share their experiences as post-graduate volunteers. Panel presenters include:

* Anne Theriault '00 Anne spent two years with Jesuit Volunteers International in Nepal. She is currently studying in the master of divinity program at Weston Jesuit School of Theology. * Brendan Sharkey '95 Brendan spent a year as a Jesuit Volunteer in Buffalo, N.Y. He is currently a union organizer for Service Employees International. * Simon Hess '92 Simon spent a year as a Jesuit Volunteer in Louisiana. He is currently a director at the Madison Park High School in Boston. Simon and his wife have two children. * Katharine Buckley McNamara '81 Kathy spent a year as a Jesuit Volunteer in Portland, Ore. She is currently the director of Public Affairs at Holy Cross. Kathy and her husband have three children.

Inner-City Teaching Corps (ICTC) Oct. 29, 4 - 5 p.m. Campion Living Room

* The Inner-City Teaching Corps (ICTC) is a volunteer service program that places college graduates as classroom teachers in inner-city Chicago schools and offers them the opportunity to earn credits toward a master’s degree in education from Northwestern University.

Volunteer Fair Oct. 29, 6 - 8 p.m. Hogan, Ballroom

* The volunteer fair will feature over 43 organizations offering local, national and international service opportunities for college graduates. The Peace Corps, Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC), and the Nativity School of Worcester are just a few of the organizations that will be represented at the fair.

Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Nov. 10, 7:30 - 9 p.m. Hogan, Room 403

* Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) will host an infosession about their U.S. and international opportunities at 7:30 p.m. In addition, they will have representatives in the Hogan lobby from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education (PLACE) Loyola Marymount University Nov. 11, 7:30 p.m. Hogan, Rooms 304 - 305

* Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education (PLACE) is a volunteer program that allows graduates to teach for two years, while earning their master’s degree in education from Loyola Marymount University. Representatives from PLACE will be at a table in the Hogan lobby to answer questions from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on November 12.

Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) University of Notre Dame Nov. 12, 7:30 - 8 p.m. Hogan, Room 403

* The Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), is a two-year service program offering college graduates the opportunity to serve as full-time teachers in under-resourced Catholic schools across the southern United States. At the same time, graduates are able to work towards their master’s in education from Notre Dame University.
