Religious Environmentalist Roger Gottlieb to Lecture at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Religious environmentalist Roger Gottlieb will give a lecture, titled "A Spirit in Love with the Earth: The Meaning and Promise of Religious Environmentalism," on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in Holy Cross' Rehm Library.

Gottlieb is Professor of Philosophy and Paris Fletcher Distinguished Professor in the Humanities at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is the author or editor of 12 books and more than 50 articles on political philosophy, feminism, the Holocaust, environmentalism, religious life, and disability. In addition, he is the editor of six academic book series and the book review editor of Social Theory and Practice. He has a review column in the national magazine Tikkun.

Throughout the past 10 years, Gottlieb has concentrated on the political, ethical, and religious dimensions of the environmental crisis, and on the broad social and normative connections between religion and politics. His anthology, This Sacred Earth: Religion, Nature, Environment, is known internationally as the first comprehensive collection on the topic.
