Holy Cross Celebrates 20th National Holiday Commemorating the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Lawrence "Larry" Watson and Workforce 2000 will perform in a concert, titled "Still on the Journey: Reparations from Togo to Arkansas," on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom at Holy Cross. The concert, being performed as part of the College's annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, is free and open to the public.

"Still on the Journey" is a musical commemoration of the sojourn of African people in the United States and a celebration of those who have benefited from the opportunities made possible by the late Dr. King.

Watson's performance will include classic gospel favorites, jazz standards, rhythm, soul, and blues music. In addition to his own compositions, Watson will perform songs by Luther Vandross, James Cleveland, Douglass Miller, Sarah Vaugh, Sammy Davis Jr., Peabo Bryson, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Mathis, and Stevie Wonder, all of which honor the victories of the civil rights movement in the United States.

By joining his musical talents with his life-long struggle for human and civil justice, Watson has become a soulful messenger for the next millennium – a modern-day Paul Robeson.

Master teacher, brilliant songwriter and veteran performer, Watson travels extensively, performing in concerts, and conducting master classes throughout the country and around the globe. He has appeared on several television programs, including his own musical special on WCVB-TV in Boston.

He is a member of the faculties at Berklee College of Music, the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, and Boston College.

This event is sponsored by the Black Student Union (BSU).
