Lecture on Science and Religion at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – John F. Haught, Thomas Healey Professor of Theology at Georgetown University, will give a lecture, titled “Science, Religion and the Quest for Cosmic Purpose,” on Friday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. in Holy Cross’ Rehm Library. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Haught specializes on issues in science and religion, cosmology and theology, and religion and ecology. A member of the Georgetown faculty since 1969, he established the Georgetown Center for the Study of Science and Religion in 1996.

In the past 25 years he has written several books, including Deeper Than Darwin, Responses to 101 Questions on God and Evolution, God After Darwin, Science and Religion: From Conflict to Conversation, and The Promise of Nature: Ecology and Cosmic Purpose. In addition, he has lectured internationally on issues related to science and religion.

A recent recipient of the Owen Garrigan Award in Science and Religion (Seton Hall University), he will be awarded the Sophia Award for theological excellence in service to ministry (Washington Theological Union) in February 2004. He earned his Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America.
