Ellen K. Gasparovic and Justin P. Parrella are this year's co-recipients of the Mrs. Kate C. Power Medal. This prestigious award is presented to the highest-ranking student(s) in the second-year class; Gasparovic and Parrella share top ranking among the 709 students in the Class of 2006.

Funded by an anonymous bequest in 1942, the award consists of an engraved medal and a cash prize of $235.

A member of the College's Honors Program, Gasparovic is a double major in mathematics and psychology. The recent recipient of a Rising Star Award, she was twice chosen as a Dana Scholar, an honor given to students of outstanding academic ability, strong character and leadership.

"It's an incredible honor to receive the Mrs. Kate C. Power Medal," said Gasparovic. "I am so thankful for having such wonderful professors and for being a part of the Holy Cross community."

Parrella, a chemistry major, is the recent recipient of the Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Organic Chemistry. Also a Dana Scholar, he is conducting research in polymer science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, this summer.
