The ASL/ Deaf Studies Program will be hosting its annual Deaf Awareness Week from Sunday, Sept. 19 - Saturday, Sept. 25. The following events are free and open to the public.
"The Art of Theatre" by Janis Cole
Tuesday, Sept. 21

Janis Cole, an instructor, lecturer, ASL consultant, ASL trainer, certified Deaf interpreter, actress, director, producer, advocate and activist in the Deaf Community will give a talk, titled "The Art of Theatre." Cole is a faculty member in the Deaf Studies Program at Boston University, a Creative Arts consultant with The Learning Center for Deaf Children, and Co-Artistic Director for Pah! Deaf Youth Theater at Wheelock Family Theatre. Co-founder of Hands-On in New York City, she has worked as an ASL theatre consultant nationally and locally for many years. This program, which is co-sponsored by the Theatre Department, the Deaf Studies program and the ASL Club, will be presented in ASL with voice interpretation.
Silent Dinner

Join us for a silent dinner in Crossroads. The dinner is a time to chat silently with friends using American Sign Language (ASL).
"It's a Deaf Deaf World" - Interactive Workshop
Thursday, Sept.23
9:30-11:30 a.m., Dinand Library
or 6:00-8:00 p.m., Hogan 4th Floor
There will be no spoken language used at this annual interactive workshop so that hearing people can communicate with the deaf using a variety of signing methods. Pre-registration is required.
