Organists Peterson, Latry to Perform at Holy Cross As Part of Chapel Artists Series

WORCESTER, Mass. – There are two remaining concerts as part of the Holy Cross Chapel Artists Series for the 2004-2005 academic year. The concerts, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the St. Joseph Memorial Chapel. The chapel is handicapped accessible.

Organist William Peterson will perform on April 3 at 3 p.m. He will perform music of the Renaissance and Baroque.

In addition to his career as a concert organist and recording artist, Peterson is professor of Organ and College Organist at Pomona College (Claremont, CA). He is internationally acclaimed as one of America’s finest musicologists. He has done much work on the study of 19th century French music; with Lawrence Archbold, he has published a major book titled French Organ Music: From the Revolution to Franck and Widor (University of Rochester Press, 1999).

Organist Oliver Latry will perform on April 10 at 3 p.m. He will perform works by J.S. Bach, Alain, Langlais, and Matter.

Latry is the organiste titulaire of the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Paris, and Professor of Organ at the Paris Conservatory. He has been internationally hailed as the greatest concert organist of his generation. Latry, who has recorded more than 50 recordings, has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Asia, Africa and Australia. He is a champion of new music and has recorded the complete organ works of Olivier Messiaen for Deutsche Gramophone and organ works of the late Jean-Louis Florentz and Jean-Pierre Leguay, his co-titulaire organiste at Notre Dame. Professor Latry is in great demand as a teacher and gives master classes regularly at the McGill Summer Organ Academy (Montreal). This will be Latry’s first performance at Holy Cross.
