Timothy Mines Named New General Counsel at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Timothy Fitzpatrick Mines, an attorney with extensive experience in higher education law, has been appointed the new general counsel at the College of the Holy Cross. The announcement was made by Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., president of the College.

Mines succeeds Rev. Dennis Yesalonia, S.J., who is leaving the College after five years of service to take a full-time position as treasurer for the New England Province of the Society of Jesus in Watertown, Mass. For the past two-and-one-half years, Fr. Yesalonia has served as the Province’s treasurer in addition to his Holy Cross duties.

"We are delighted to have Tim Mines join Holy Cross," Fr. McFarland said. "The search committee was very impressed with his breadth of experience in higher education law, as well as his excellent communications skills, his approachability and collegiality. He’ll be a valuable member of our community and will be a great help in dealing with the many legal, compliance and policy issues we face as an institution of higher education."

For the past four years, Mines has been associate counsel for the Community Colleges of Massachusetts, where he was involved in personnel matters, training, contracts, finance, regulatory compliance, intellectual property and related areas. Before that, he spent 17 years in the Office of the General Counsel at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he was associate counsel and also taught as an adjunct professor.

He received his law degree from Tulane after graduating with a B.A. in American history from the University of Maryland at College Park.
