Theatre Department Sponsoring Dance Concert by Caitlin Corbett Dance Company

The department of theatre is sponsoring an informal dance concert by the renowned Caitlin Corbett Dance Company on Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. in the Hogan Ballroom. The performance is free and open to the Holy Cross community.

Caitlin Corbett has been presenting work in the Boston area since 1984. Influenced by New York’s Judson Theatre choreographers and their predecessors, Corbett strongly believes in heralding the everyday in her work. She makes use of ordinary, pedestrian movement and chance. Juxtaposing the common recurring movement with an explosive physicality, her idiosyncratic choreography is often performed by both dancers and nondancers.

Corbett holds a master of fine arts from Massachusetts College of Art and a bachelor’s degree from Bennington College. Her work has been shown in Boston, Los Angeles, and was presented at the Kitchen and Movement Research in New York City. In 1994, she received a Boston Moves commission from Dance Umbrella and was awarded a 1995 New Forms grant by the New England Foundation for the Arts. In 2002 and 2003, she received grants from Cambridge Arts Council. Her company is listed on the Performing and Touring Roster of Massachusetts Cultural Council. Corbett is currently an associate professor at Salem State College.
