Expert on Sexual Violence in Youth to Give Talk at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Nan Stein, Ed.D., will give a talk titled "A Rising Pandemic of Sexual Violence in Elementary and Secondary Schools: Locating a Secret Problem" at 4 p.m. on Nov. 15 in Rehm Library at the College of the Holy Cross. The talk is free and open to the public.

Stein is a senior research scientist and project director at the Center for Research on Women, part of Wellesley Centers for Women at Wellesley College. Despite the general difficulty of acquiring data on sexual violence in schools, Stein’s research suggests that over the course of the last few decades incidents of sexual harassment in K-12 schools have been occurring at younger and younger ages and have become more sexually violent.

Stein is the author of Classrooms and Courtrooms: Facing Sexual Harassment in K-12 Schools (Teachers College Press, 1999). She has appeared on many television news and talk shows, including The Today Show; NBC Nightly News; CNN; Nightline with Ted Koppel; CBS Evening News with Dan Rather; The Oprah Winfrey Show; Good Morning America; and the Phil Donahue Show.

The talk is sponsored by Women’s and Gender Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies and Center for Interdisciplinary and Special Studies.
