Seasoned Magazine Professional Named New Editor of Holy Cross Magazine

WORCESTER, Mass. – Suzanne Morrissey has been named the new editor of Holy Cross Magazine, the quarterly alumni magazine at the College of the Holy Cross.

She succeeds Jack O’Connell ’81, the magazine’s founding editor, who served in that capacity for 11 years before leaving last fall to pursue his fiction writing.

Morrissey is a seasoned magazine editor and publishing professional, with extensive experience in developing content for both print and the Web; managing freelance writers and designers; and overseeing complex budgets.  From 1998-2007,  she was a senior editor in the Special Interest Media division of Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, where she was the editor of several national newsstand magazines including Kids’ Rooms and Simply Perfect Color Schemes. Most recently, she was an independent editorial consultant and project manager based in Greensboro, North Carolina, working with clients such as Better Homes & Gardens, Woman's Day, Country Home, and others.

A graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, she also has teaching experience through adjunct work at Drake University's Journalism and Mass Communications School, and mentored students in Drake's magazine-track apprenticeship program.

“I am thrilled to take the reins of such a well-loved publication, and hope to continue building meaningful connections with the alumni,” Morrissey said. “I plan to be an enthusiastic caretaker of the diverse, rich, and often soul-warming stories that are happening on the Hill.”

In addition to her responsibilities as magazine editor, Morrissey will serve as an associate director in the College’s Office of Public Affairs, with various responsibilities for Web site content development and electronic communications.
