MEDIA ADVISORY: Dedication and Blessing of New Science Building at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – WHAT: A dedication and blessing of the newly constructed Park B. and Linda Smith Laboratories and named spaces inside the laboratories, including the George I. Alden Trust Organic Chemistry Laboratory and the McLaughlin Family Lecture Hall.  The event celebrates the completion of Phase 1 of the new state-of-the-art Integrated Science Complex. WHO: In attendance: The Holy Cross Board of Trustees including chair Kevin Condron '67, chairman and chief executive officer of The Granite Group; Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., Holy Cross president; Park B. and Linda Smith, who donated $10 million toward the construction of the Integrated Science Complex; the McLaughlin family; representatives from Worcester area foundations; students, faculty, and staff.

WHEN: Friday, Jan. 23, 6 p.m.

WHERE: Smith Laboratories, College of the Holy Cross

WHY: The completion of Phase 1 of the $60 million Integrated Science Complex on the campus of Holy Cross has created new opportunities for teaching, learning, and research in the College's acclaimed undergraduate science curriculum. Among many benefits, Smith Labs will increase the number of chemistry classrooms and labs, provide a highly efficient and environmentally-friendly facility, and allow for enhanced faculty/student research. Phase 2 is already underway in Haberlin Hall. The 50-year-old building will be gutted and completely rebuilt, with an expected completion date of January 2010. The College is working architects Einhorn, Yaffe & Prescott.
