Record 266 Students Participating in 25th Annual Spring Break Immersion Program

One in 10 Holy Cross students spending spring break doing community service

The Chaplains’ Office is reporting another record number of students participating in this year’s Spring Break Immersion Program, in which students spend their break doing community service.

Martin Kelly, assistant chaplain who oversees the program, says 266 students — or one in 10 students at the College — are working in 15 locations in Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, and New Orleans. Last year, 260 students participated.

During the week of service, students assist communities with home repair, clean up, paint, visit schools, call on the elderly or disabled people, and learn about the various cultures of the regions.

The alternative spring break was the subject of a story on New England Cable News on Feb. 27. Watch the video.
