Supreme Knight of Knights of Columbus to Visit Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Carl A. Anderson, supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus, will visit the College of the Holy Cross on Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m. in the Seelos Theater. He will talk about his latest book, A Civilization of Love: What Every Catholic Can Do to Transform the World. The event, which is sponsored by the Holy Cross chapter of Knights of Columbus, Crusader Council 2706, is free and open to the public.

As Supreme Knight, Anderson leads the world’s largest lay Catholic service organization, serving as chief executive officer and chairman of the board for more than 1.75 million members, in a network of local councils spread across the world. He has held this position since October 2000.

Anderson has established a distinguished career as an educator and public servant. From 1983-87, he served in various positions in the Executive Office for the President of the United States. Following his time at the White House, he spent nearly 10 years as a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. From 1983-98, Anderson also taught as a visiting professor for family law at the Pontifical Lateran University. He has also been a member of the faculty at the Catholic University of America since 1988.

In 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed Anderson to the Pontifical Academy for Life, and in 2000, he was named a Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Catholic University of America and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

The Knights of Columbus were formed to provide financial assistance to members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members through efforts in social justice, education, charity, and other relief works. There are more than 13,000 councils throughout the U.S., Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam, and Saipan.
