As the 40th anniversary of Earth Day is celebrated around the globe, more than a dozen Holy Cross “celebs” — including Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., president — have taken a surprising tack to get students, faculty, and staff to think seriously about their impact on the environment.
They’re urging the College Community not to go green.
By “championing” gas guzzlers, long showers, wastefulness, litter, and other bad ideas in a video, they hope the campus will get the message that everyone’s actions matter.
Fr. McFarland, Class Deans, Admissions officers, and chaplains joined students and staff in an ironic chorus of what to do — if you don’t care about the environment. As a signatory of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, Holy Cross is one of 650 institutions that have pledged to eliminate global warming emissions.
