"College theater takes the city stage"

Worcester Magazine

In an article exploring the rising popularity of college theater productions in Worcester, Ed Isser, professor and chair of the theatre department at the College of the Holy Cross, encourages city residents to attend shows that are unlikely to be found in commercial theaters.  Isser says that live theater on college campuses throughout the city can provide compelling passion and energy that has been missing, especially considering the 2009 closing of Foothills Theater, a moment that many residents believed was the end of stage productions in the city.

The vibrancy of college theater, Isser argues, lies in the scope and scale of the productions themselves, but also in the unique nature of the audience, often young people with little experience of theater.  Isser urges more residents of Worcester to attend Holy Cross productions: “Holy Cross is a beautiful, safe and welcoming environment.  The shows are relatively cheap and the work is always compelling and entertaining.”
