"Science makes magic at HC Hogwarts Fair"

Telegram & Gazette

In a Telegram & Gazette article previewing the May 1 “Hogwarts at Holy Cross” program, Lindsey Tonge ’11, co-organizer of the event, explained the highlights of the popular science show geared toward local children.

“Probably the most popular table has been the one involving liquid nitrogen,” she said. “Most of the kids have seen it before, but we use it to freeze things, like a flower and a banana peel, and then smash them with a hammer. They always think that’s pretty cool.”

“The annual Hogwarts show has been a great way to get young students to approach science with a genuine sense of wonder,” Jude Kelley, assistant professor of chemistry, told the newspaper.  “By presenting science through the magical world of Harry Potter, we are able to make science more fascinating and ultimately more fun for young students.”
