Holy Cross Students Turn Trash into Treasure

Telegram & Gazette

Eco-Action, a student-run environmental group at the College, is sponsoring “Trash or Treasure.” The movement encourages students to leave unwanted items, such as lamps, office supplies, clothing, and books, in designated areas in their residence halls.  Rather than ending up in the trash, all unwanted belongings will be collected and redistributed to Worcester-area organizations.

Kelly Dyer, Eco-Action member and one of the organizers of the event tells the Telegram & Gazette: “We have a ton of stuff, including many new items with tags still on them,” she said, adding that bedding and toiletry items were given to the Immigrant Refugee Assistance program, and stuffed animals and pillows went to the Worcester chapter of Sweet Dreamzzz, a nonprofit that partners with the National Center of Sleep Disorders Research.

This is the third year the group has run the program.
