Highly Sought After String Quartet to Perform at Holy Cross

Critically acclaimed Borromeo String Quartet to play Beethoven and Schubert

The critically acclaimed Borromeo String Quartet will perform on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. in Brooks Concert Hall at the College of the Holy Cross. Prior to the concert, the quartet will hold a pre-concert lecture at 7:15 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

The group, consisting of violinists Nicholas Kitchen and Kristopher Tong, viola Mai Motobuchi, and cellist Yeesun Kim, perform more than 100 concerts of classical and contemporary music across three continents every season. The Holy Cross program includes Beethoven's First "Razumovsky" Quartet, Op. 59, No. 1 and Schubert's "Death and the Maiden" Quartet.

One of the most sought after and admired string quartets in the world, The Boston Globe hails: “Simply the best there is.”

They are known for making even the most challenging pieces of music approachable to all audiences. The group reads music from Apple computers and use multimedia in their concerts. According to The New York Times: “The digital tide washing over society is lapping at the shores of classical music. The Borromeo players have embraced it in their daily musical lives like no other major chamber music group.”

They have performed in some of the world’s most famous concert halls and music festivals, while continuing long-standing residencies at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Tenri Cultural Institute, Dai-Ichi Semei Hall in Tokyo, and the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music, where they have been the official Quartet-in-Residence for 17 years.
