Flutist Patricia Spencer to Perform at Holy Cross

Flutist Patricia Spencer will perform a concert titled “The Global Flute” on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. in Brooks Concert Hall at the College of the Holy Cross. Other performers include Eileen Hutchens, lecturer of piano at Holy Cross; renowned tabla player Samir Chatterjee; and Lisa Preimesberger, bass clarinetist.

The concert program includes the music of East Wind, Three Bagatelles from China West (2007), Lalit (2009), Narcissus (1987), and Bijou (1993).

Spencer has embraced diverse sounds and sought new horizons for the flute throughout her varied and expansive career. She is a flutist with the Da Capo Chamber Players, and has performed recitals throughout the U.S. and abroad. In August 2009, she gave the world premiere of Lalit, by Shirish Korde, professor and chair of the music department, written for her and Chatterjee. Other highlights include the Boulez Sonatine for the Bard Music Festival and Joan Tower's Flute Concerto for the National Flute Association Convention in Nashville.

Spencer teaches flute and chamber music at Bard College and Hofstra University where she directs the university’s contemporary ensemble.
