"Holy Cross hockey team honoring Mass. Soldiers"

NECN/Channel 3

On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Holy Cross men's hockey team raised $7,400 for the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund (MSLF) at its game versus Army. The fund provides educational assistance grants to the children of Massachusetts service members who were killed while deployed on Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.

Before the game, Head Coach Paul Pearl and a couple of players talked with NECN/Channel 3 about what the game means to them.

“What these soldiers do doesn't go unnoticed and this is our way of being able to give back to them,” Kyle Atkins ’12 told the reporter.

“Sometime you forget about privileges such as playing hockey or the freedom we have living in this country -- this puts the military, out overseas fighting for us, on the forefront,” shared Mark Williamson ’14.

The team wore special edition camouflage jersey to show its support. The jerseys were auctioned off throughout the game with all proceeds going to the fund.
