"Tebow Nation: Religion-sports mix has history"

Telegram & Gazette

In a Telegram & Gazette article, Mathew Schmalz, associate professor of religious studies at the College of the Holy Cross, explained why football fans give great attention, with mixed reactions, to Denver Bronco’s quarterback Tim Tebow’s religious approach toward the sport.

“He reflects the deep seeded hopes of people who believe that, if you work hard and have good values, then God will help you,” said Mr. Schmalz. “But then, you have those who are waiting for the other shoe to drop on Mr. Tebow.”
