"Creative Ingenuity: Cuban Art at Holy Cross Gallery"

Worcester Mag featured “Cuban Artists’ Books and Prints, 1985-2008,” a new exhibition on display in the College of the Holy Cross’ Cantor Foundation Resource Gallery.

Roger Hankins, the director of the gallery, explained, “The Cuban books in the show are primarily produced at the Ediciones Vigía, a collaborative artisans’ press founded in 1985 in Matanzas, Cuba, and the books are mostly assembled out of humble and often found materials that carry a disarmingly complex visual weight.”

Because of the struggles between Russia and Cuba two decades ago, artisans faced challenges to produce their beautifully crafted art. Therefore, the exhibit draws special attention to the artistas’ “dedication, diligence and drive to maintain their artistic visions” throughout the nation’s political turmoil.
