'Manning meant millions to the Colts'

American Public Media’s “Marketplace"

In a story by American Public Media’s “Marketplace,” Victor Matheson, associate professor of economics at the College of the Holy Cross, commented on the Indianapolis Colts’ decision to replace Peyton Manning with the much less expensive rookie Andrew Luck.

Agreeing with the decision to cut Manning, which will save the team $28 million, he said, “Last year with essentially the same team” said Matheson. “But without Peyton Manning, they became one of the worst teams in the NFL.” Rookies come cheap, and according to Matheson, Luck should only cost the team half what Manning did.
