'Social media and job seekers'

In response to a recent report, Amy Murphy, director of career planning at the College of the Holy Cross, warns students about giving potential employers their Facebook user names and passwords. “It's a security issue,” Murphy told the reporter. “We would never advise a student to give a user name or password to anything or anyone under any circumstance.”

Seniors Julianna Biolsi and Tricia Dunn weighed in on the subject.  “I could see how it could help employers get a better sense of a candidate but in the long run I think that an interview or conversation is a much more meaningful way of assessing a candidate for a job,” said Biolsi.

“I don't think I would be comfortable giving out that information just because Facebook is such a private thing and I think students are increasingly recognizing that and turning to those privacy controls, in which case, employers are turning to these actions,” shared Dunn.
