'Convention host cities hope for financial boost'

Tampa may be bracing for a tropical storm, but according to Victor Matheson, associate professor of economics at the College of the Holy Cross, hosting the Republican National Convention may be just as costly for the city.

In a USA Today story, Matheson warned that there's no evidence political conventions boost the local economy.  "Take whatever dollar impact host organizers predict, 'and move the decimal point one place to the left,'" he said.
