'Jesus' marital status needs more study'

Telegram & Gazette

In Telegram & Gazette article, Virginia C. Raguin, professor of art history at the College of the Holy Cross, and Alice Laffey, associate professor of religious studies, were called upon to comment on the recently found papyrus that implies Jesus had a wife.

“This is a fascinating find,” said Raguin. “But there are a lot of questions that need to be answered before one can definitely say that Jesus was married.”

Equally cautious about the claims in the papyrus, Laffey suggested that although the document might be authentic, the term “wife” is likely to have a number of different meanings.
